Department of Economics and Management

 

The Department of Economics and Management was founded in 1996. Three doctors of economic science and ten candidates of economic science, assistant professors, work at the Department. Vladimir Petrovich Babych, Doctor of Economic Science, Professor, Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Informatics and Honoured Worker of Science and Technology, heads the Department.

Three levels of studies are offered for students at the Department – bachelor, specialist and master at full-time, extra-mural and distance form of education in "Management of Organizations" speciality.

The training of students is carried out at a highly professional level which meets the modern requirements.

There functions a section of the student’s scientific association at the Department. Every year, students present their reports at student's scientific conferences in the Kharkiv National University and other higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The best student’s reports are published in the Faculty’s collection of scientific works.

The Department trains specialists of high proficiency. Annually, from 15 to 17 people follow post-graduate course and 1 or 2 people work for doctor’s degree.

There functions the Specialized Council on Defence of doctoral and Ph.D. thesis at the Department, in the speciality 08.02.03, “Organization of Management, Planning and Economic Regulation”, headed by V.P. Babych, Doctor of Economic Science and Professor.

Graduates of the Department work at responsible positions in different spheres of the national economy. Most of the graduates take up management positions in Kharkiv, Sumy and other regions, in higher educational institutions of Kharkiv and in different large-scale enterprises of Kharkiv and Ukraine. The graduates of the Department have become doctors of science, professors and academicians. They take up posts of deans, pro-rectors and rectors, and work in the Administration of the President of Ukraine.

The Department personnel and students participate in celebrations of the Day of the Faculty, hold leisure parties etc.

“Management of Organizations” speciality is unique and has a lot of prospects, because here managers with profound knowledge in economics are trained, and there is a wide range of positions and career development guaranteed for them.

A specialist in “Management of Organizations” can take up the following positions at enterprises, in associations and organizations regardless of the form of property:

   - heads and masters of productive subdivisions in industry;

   - heads and masters in transport, warehousing and communications;

   - heads of subdivisions in the sphere of culture, recreation and sports;

   - heads of financial, economic, legal and administrative subdivisions;

   - inspectors of educational institutions;

   - specialists in the sphere of labour and employment;

   - specialists in the field of marketing, entrepreneurial efficiency and rationalization of production;

   - secretaries of administrative organs;

   - managers of tourist agencies and travel bureaus;

   - managers in hotel industry etc.

Disciplines studied by students in “Management of Organizations” speciality are arranged by years of studies and presented alongside with forms of control and the number of ECTS credits in information packets for full-time and extra-mural education.
