Department
of International Economics
In all the regions of Ukraine, there is a lack
of highly skilled specialists in international economic activity. Taking into account
this circumstance, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University started training students
of the corresponding specialization in 1995. In 1998, the Department of International
Economics and International Economic Relations was created at the Faculty of Economics,
and it was headed by Artur Pavlovich Golikov, Professor and Doctor of Geographic
Science, famous scientist and pedagogue.
In 2003, the Department of International Economics
was separated and headed by Yuriy Alexandrovich Chernetskiy, Doctor of Sociologic
Science, Candidate of Economic Science, Professor and Chief Editor of the scientific
journal “Region: Strategy and Priorities”.
Yelena Arturovna Shuba, Candidate of Geographic
Science, Assistant Professor (author of the course books «Fundamentals of Corporate
Management», «International Finance» and co-author of the course books «International
Economic Relations», «Economy of Ukraine: Factors of Production, Branch Structure,
Distribution and Development Tendencies», «World Economy and International Economic
Relations»), Candidates of Economic Science, Assistant Professors Nataliya Gennadievna
Duna (author of the course book «Investment») and Tatyana Ivanovna Kym (author of
methodical aids «Management of Personnel», «World Economy», «Economics of Foreign
Countries» and the course book «Economics of Foreign Countries»), Senior Teacher
Sergey Vasiliyevich Berenda (author of the course book «Transnational Corporations»),
and Igor Lvovich Raynin, Candidate of Science of Public Administration, Assistant
Professor and Deputy Chief of the Central Administrative Board on Economy and Market
Relations in the Kharkiv Region State Administration, make up the kernel of the
pedagogical team of the Department.
Yelizaveta Leonidovna Koshkareva, methodologist
of the 1st category, and Anna Igorevna Ignatyeva, engineer of the 1st category,
carry out organizational and methodological maintenance at the Department.
Training in “International Economics” speciality
is carried out in full-time and extra-mural form of education. One can also receive
the second higher education in this speciality. The training is carried out on contractual
basis and at the cost of the state budget.
In the process of full-time studies, young men
have an opportunity to complete military training and receive the rank of reserve
officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and young women can receive education of
medical nurse.
The complex of disciplines of humanitarian,
natural-science and general economic training cycles and the cycle of fundamental
and professionally oriented disciplines make up the basis of educational and professional
programme of “International Economics” speciality.
Students of the Department may receive basic higher
education and qualification of "Bachelor in International Economics"
(normative term of studies is 4 years), complete higher education and qualification
of “Master in International Economics” (full-time form of studies – 1 year) and
“Specialist in International Economics” (extra-mural form of studies – 1 year),
on the basis of educational and qualificational level of Bachelor in similar speciality.
Principal spheres of activity for the graduates
of the Department of International Economics are the following:
• departments of foreign economic links
and external trade services of enterprises and organizations;
• administration and subdivisions of public
management and municipal organs concerned with problems of foreign economic relations;
• customs services;
• foreign trade representations etc.
Excellent students interested in post-graduate
studies can pass exams and continue education, and in due course defend Ph.D. thesis
in “World Economy and International Economic Relations” speciality.
There functions a student’s scientific society
at the Department. Students actively participate in round-table discussions and
international conferences.
