Department of International Economic Relations, Regional Geography and Tourism

 

After Ukraine acquired independence, the country and all of its regions have directly entered the system of world economic relations. Individual enterprises and firms have actively joined in the foreign economic activity. Specialists in international economic relations have become of great demand at the labour market.

The Kharkiv Region is one of the most economically developed regions of Ukraine. Under conditions of the country’s independence, this region has acquired free access to the world markets and skilled workers in the field of international economic relations have become of great demand. This fact has determined the beginning of training specialists in the above-mentioned field at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The first admission of students took place in 1995.

In 1998, the Department of International Economics and International Economic Relations was officially created and headed by Artur Pavlovich Golikov, Professor, Doctor of Geographic Science and Academician of the Academy of Science, the Highest School of Ukraine. Since 2003, there exists the Department of International Economic Relations, Regional Geography and Tourism at the University.

 

Students in the speciality 8.030403, “International Economic Relations”, take courses in the following cycles of economic disciplines: “International Economic Relations”, “Accounting and Analysis of Foreign Economic Activity”, “Management of Foreign Economic Activity”, “Theory and Practice of External Trade”, “Macroeconomics”, “Microeconomics”, “Statistics” etc.; and in the following legal disciplines: “Fundamentals of Law”, “International Private Law”, “Law of European Union”, “Customs Regulating” etc. Special attention is given to students’ training in foreign languages and computer disciplines. Over two thousand academic hours are assigned for foreign language studies.

Ten professors, more than twenty candidates of science and teachers of the highest category secure the educational process in the speciality. Most teachers have been on probation at universities abroad. By the Department, there is the Centre of International Humanitarian Cooperation and Foreign Economic Connections of the Region.

Students of the Department participate in holding of summer seminar schools abroad, in scientific and science and practical conferences, receive grants for going on probation at educational institutions in Germany, Turkey, Hungary and other countries, win prizes in student’s language olympiads.

Education is realized on contractual basis and at the cost of state budgetary funds. Education is offered in stationary and extra-mural forms. Entrance examinations in the Ukrainian language (dictation) and Mathematics should be passed by applicants. Besides, one can receive the second higher education in the specialities of “Customs” and “Management of International Tourism”. Entrance exams: an interview.

In the process of education, young men who study at the stationary form can have military training and obtain the rank of reserve officer on completion. Young women receive education of a medical nurse.

Graduates are given the following qualifications:

- educational and qualificational level of bachelor 6.030403 – Bachelor in International Economic Relations (4 years of studies)

- educational and qualificational level of bachelor 6.050400 – Bachelor in Tourism (4 years of studies)

- educational and qualificational level of master 8.030403 – International Economist, Translator (5 years of studies)

Graduates carry out their activity in the following fields: departments of foreign economic connections of enterprises, tourist agencies, trade representations abroad, customs, diplomatic and consular services. Excellent students willing to continue their education may pass exams for post-graduate studies.
